The daily lot

One real property listing a day, chosen for being absurd: the price, the taste, or the listing copy, ideally all three. The photos are the agencies' own, untouched. The asking price is verbatim. The eyebrow is ours.

The Wire

Short daily news briefs from the coast, in plain English, in our voice, with the facts taken from (and always linked to) their original source. We summarise and raise an eyebrow; we don't pretend to have done the reporting.

The numbers

Prices with a source attached: the published cost of a sunbed, the price of an espeto on a venue’s own menu, and what property listings ask. Each observation carries its source and date. A listed price is not a promise about today’s bill.

Editorial standards: short, because we follow them

  1. Prices are sacred.

    Every price we publish must have a dated source. Property asking prices come from the listing; menu and sunbed prices come from the linked venue or booking page. If a figure cannot be supported, we leave it unpriced.

  2. We punch at prices and taste, never at people.

    No owners named, no agents named in captions, no photographs of people. The joke is the €22 million, never the person asking it.

  3. Sources are always linked.

    Wire briefs summarise reporting done by others; the original is linked on every dispatch, prominently. Listing pages link the live listing.

  4. Takedowns are honoured fast and without drama.

    If your listing features here and you'd rather it didn't, one message removes it. The page will say the lot was withdrawn. That's the whole process.

  5. Corrections are dated, not deleted.

    Get something wrong, we fix it visibly and date the fix: deadpan doesn't mean unaccountable.
